Sparks man graduates National Guard basic training

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Joseph W. Rice recently graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

Rice is the son of Jeri Norman of Sparks and Leonard Rice of Redondo Beach, Calif. The airman is a 2005 graduate of Spanish Springs High School.

Rice completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Rice earned distinction as an honor graduate.
