Sparks police are looking for a man in a white cargo van who has been repeatedly approaching a young girl in Sparks, asking her to get in the van.

The man has allegedly approached the 12 year old girl on several separate occasions: once in the 700 block of Seventh Street, once in the 500 block of E Street and once as the girl was walking on Prater Way.

On Thursday, officers met with the girl and her mother who described the encounters.

On Oct.14 at 7:15 a.m., a white cargo type van driven by a white male adult pulled up alongside of the child as she was walking to school in the 700 block of Seventh Street. The male called out to her, according to police reports, and asked her to get into the vehicle so he could take her to school. The child refused. The driver reportedly became angry and insisted. The child refused and the van drove away.

The child was again approached by the same male driving the same van in the 500 block of E Street a week later as she walked to school. He called out to the child and indicated he would find her as he drove away.

On Thursday, at about 6:50 p.m., the child was walking in the 1100 block of Prater Way when the male drove up beside her in the van and stated he knew he would find her referring to his previous threat. The child became scared and ran home to report what had happened.

The Sparks Police Department is asking the public to immediately call police if they observe the vehicle described below:

A white Cargo Van with Nevada sunset plates consisting of three unknown numbers, the letter F and two other unknown letters. The right side of the vehicle has primer, the left rear of the vehicle has minor collision damage; the van does not have side windows although there is a darkly tinted small square window on the left rear of the van. On the right rear bumper, there is a bumper sticker with white writing.

The suspect was described to police as a white male adult between the ages of 38 and 40, 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall, approximately 220-230 pounds with brown hair. The male had a goatee and wore blue sunglasses and a dark colored ballcap. The suspect had a noticeable birthmark on the right side of his face approximately 1/8-1/4 of an inch in diameter.
