The Sparks boys soccer team will meet Incline next week with the 3A North Lake League championship on the line. The Railroaders assured themselves of a title shot thanks to a 3-0 road win at Truckee Tuesday afternoon.

Sparks has more than a week off before it will host Incline Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. in its regular season finale. A Sparks win would give the Railroaders at least a share of the league crown and a top seed into the upcoming 3A North tournament.

Tuesday's win clinched at least league runner-up honors for Sparks (11-2-2 overall, 5-1-1 LL). The Railroaders wasted no time getting on the scoreboard against Truckee. The SHS club scored just two minutes after the opening kick thanks to an Abi Quintino goal that was assisted by Eric Ojeda.

The Railroaders built on their advantage, scoring in the 10th minute as well. That goal came off the leg of Edgar Casillas, who was assisted by Andrew Garcia.

The 2-0 margin stood up for nearly the remainder of the match. Sparks added one more score in he final two minutes of the match. Andrew Garcia tacked on the goal in the 79th minute when Quintino provided an assist.

Sparks got off 14 shots while Truckee managed just three. Sparks goalkeeper Javier Torres collected three saves.

"Our offense played well but our defense led by Danny Ornelas played stellar today," Sparks coach Frank Avilla said. "This was a very hard fought game, one of the more physical games we've played all year. It was a joy to watch the kids and to get a win against Truckee any time is great."

GIRLS

•Sparks had no answer for state power Truckee Tuesday as the host Wolverines rolled to a 12-0 triumph.

Tuesday's decision was more lopsided than the 7-1 defeat Truckee handed Sparks at home last month.

"Truckee looked like it was peaking," Sparks coach Jerry Miller said. "They looked a lot better than last time. We weren't very inspired today shall we say.

"We're hoping it's just a rough day. The girls were a little flat. We really didn't get fired up at all. It's just a matter of getting back and energized before the next game."

Sparks (7-5-1, 2-4-1) gets just over a week off before it returns to the soccer pitch again for a game Sept. 29 at home against Incline. Miller said an expanded stretch of workouts is a good thing as his team preps for the postseason.

"Hopefully we'll get some players back by then," he said. "We could use some time to get people healthy and get some grades cleared up."
