The Washoe County Sheriff’s Department is trying to buy Christmas gifts for 50 students at each Washoe County elementary school.

Donations for Christmas on the Corridor will go toward underprivileged children on and near the Fourth Street corridor.

The department is also hoping to deliver food, clothing and hygiene items to many seniors in the same areas.

The program is in need of the following new items:

• Clothing for children and tweens (Coats, hats, and gloves)

• Backpacks and school supplies

• Toys of all kinds for all ages

• Games and books for teens and tweens

• Gift cards

• Shampoo, soaps, toothbrush, toothpaste

• Volunteer time and monetary donations

• Books on CD, puzzles, paint by number sets, slippers, lap blankets and anything else that would be appreciated by seniors.

Donated items will be distributed to children on Dec. 19 beginning at 10 a.m.

Donations can be dropped off at the sheriff’s office Monday through Friday between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. or mailed to 350 S. Center St., Suite #101. They can also be dropped off at Fred’s Auto Repair at 500 E. Sixth St., the Records Division at 911 Parr Blvd., or the county assessor’s office at 1001 E. Ninth St., Building D. Checks should be made payable to the Reno Sparks Corridor Business Association (RSCBA).
