Through Monday, the Sparks Police Department will have additional officers on the streets focusing on speed enforcement and traffic and safety violations related to motorcycles.

Due to the several thousand additional motorcycles and out of town visitors with the Street Vibrations event, officers will be on the look out for speeding vehicles and the unsafe operation of motorcycles.

The traffic section receives more citizen complaints of speeding vehicles than any other traffic related issue.

In 2007, According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), speeding was a factor in 31 percent of all fatal traffic crashes, and 13,040 lives were lost in speeding-related crashes. On a monetary note, motor vehicle crashes cost society, on an average, more than $40 billion per year.
