James C Hussey, 63, of Sunnyvale, Calif., and his daughter, 41-year-old Sharma K. Hussey of Morgan Hill, Calif., were killed after their vehicle rolled over on U.S. 6 50 miles east of Tonopah early Saturday morning.
At 12:25 a.m., Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol were dispatched to the accident. The preliminary accident investigation details indicate that James and Sharma were traveling eastbound on the two-lane highway in a 2007 Pontiac four-door sedan with California license plates approaching a left hand curve.
James, who was driving, allowed the vehicle to drift off the right roadway edge and then overcorrected the steering to the left. The vehicle then re-entered the highway and crossed both lanes.
The vehicle rolled over and came to rest on its top 40 feet from the edge of the westbound travel lane. The female passenger was ejected during the rollover and sustained fatal injuries at the accident scene. Troopers are still investigating whether the driver was ejected during the rollover or if he crawled out of his vehicle after it came to rest. He was transported from the scene by ground ambulance and taken to Nye Regional Medical Center in Tonopah prior to being airlifted to University Medical Center (UMC) in Las Vegas. He died from his injuries the next morning.
Witnesses or anyone with additional information should contact Trooper Eric Gallagher of the Major Accident Investigation Team at 689-4661 regarding case no. NHP-0909050029.
