Saturday morning at 12:25 a.m., Nevada Highway Patrol troopers responded to a single-vehicle rollover accident on U.S. Highway 6, approximately 50 miles east of Tonopah. The preliminary accident investigation indicates that a man and a woman were traveling eastbound on the two-lane highway in a 2007 Pontiac four-door sedan with California license plates approaching a left-hand curve. The male driver allowed the vehicle to drift off the right roadway edge and then over-corrected by steering to the left. The vehicle re-entered the highway and crossed both lanes. The vehicle rolled over and came to rest on its top approximately 40 feet from the edge of the westbound travel lane. The female passenger was ejected during the rollover and sustained fatal injuries at the scene. Troopers are still investigating whether the driver was ejected during the rollover or if he crawled out of his vehicle after it came to rest. He was transported by ground ambulance to Nye Regional Medical Center in Tonopah prior to being airlifted to University Medical Center (UMC) in Las Vegas. He died from his injuries shortly before 9 a.m. Once family members have been notified, NHP will release both names.

Witnesses or anyone with additional information should contact Trooper Eric Gallagher of the Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) at 689-4661 regarding case # NHP-0909050029.
