RENO –– On Sunday at 7:19 p.m., Reno police patrol officers responded to the area of Carat Avenue and Double Diamond Parkway on the report of an attempted kidnapping. The victim, a 40-year-old Reno resident, reported that she had been jogging when the suspect stopped his truck in front of her. The suspect then exited his truck, opened up the passenger side door and ordered the victim inside. The victim refused and the suspect again ordered her to get into his truck. The victim then ran away in the opposite direction. The suspect pursued the victim in his truck and pulled up near her a second time. He again exited his vehicle and ordered the victim to get in. A female motorist witnessing the chain of events allowed the victim into her vehicle and then fled the area. The suspect followed both women in his truck for several blocks before driving away.

Responding officers located the suspect’s vehicle as it exited a business parking lot in the 700 block of South Meadows Parkway. The vehicle was stopped and Heydeman Argueta-Godoy, 24, was detained. The victim was transported to the scene of the stop and positively identified Argueta-Godoy as the man who had attempted to kidnap her.

Further investigation revealed that minutes earlier, the suspect had contacted two young girls walking on Box Canyon Drive. These girls, who were white and between the ages of 12 and 14, were seen by a neighborhood resident fleeing on foot after the suspect had stopped his vehicle next to them. This resident followed the girls for a short distance to ensure the suspect had no further contact with them. The girls were last seen walking in the 9600 block of Oakley Lane. Reno Police officers request that these girls call them regarding their contact with the suspect on Box Canyon Drive. Officers can be reached by calling 334-2121, Secret Witness at 322-4900, or the Detective Division (Monday-Friday) at 334-2115.
