The Reed girls soccer team wrapped up its regular season in fine fashion at home Thursday night, rolling over High Desert League foe North Valleys, 5-0.

The Raiders led just 1-0 at halftime, thanks to a goal by Kayla Gomer off an assist from Alissa Marshall. However, the hosts blew the match open with three goals in a four-minute span midway through the second half.

In the 54th minute, Kelsey Gomer scored following a Kayla Gomer assist, pushing the RHS edge to 2-0. Two minutes later, Kayla Gomer tacked on her second goal of the night on an assist from Colby Thomas. Then, in the 58th minute, Jordan Sambrano got a Kelsey Gomer assist and scored for a 4-0 Reed lead.

“It was only 1-0 at halftime but it was senior night. It was an emotional night for those eight girls,” Reed coach Jason Saville said. “Senior night is always an emotional night. It seems like we always have to come back to get a tie or a win on senior night. So, it was nice that four-minute stretch in the second half gave us some breathing room.”

Sambrano, a starting midfielder for the Raiders, capped the match scoring with another goal, this one coming in the final minute of play when Leslie Milton gave away the assist.

Reed (9-2-3, 9-1-2 HDL) gets a week off before returning to the soccer pitch. The Raiders take the HDL's top playoff seed into the Northern 4A tournament, which begins Nov. 1. Reed will face Carson, the No. 4 seed from the Sierra League at 6 p.m. at Damonte Ranch in its playoff opener.
