Washoe County School District officials confirmed Thursday that Kenneth Theiss, a day shift supervisor at a Sparks school bus yard, has tendered his resignation.
“And we are accepting his resignation,” said Steve Mulvenon, a spokesman for the school district.
Theiss was investigated in July on allegations of criminal embezzlement, with co-workers claiming he took bus yard property for personal use and charged personal expenses to school district accounts.
No formal charges were leveled by the school police department and, according to WCSD police chief Mike Mieras, the investigation is still open, but it has been suspended.
“We have investigated all of our leads,” Mieras said.
Now, the police are waiting for the results of a comprehensive internal bus yard audit to continue the investigation, he added.
Theiss was placed on administrative leave in July.
School district officials have still not placed a dollar amount on the allegations according to school police. However, some office employees place the number in the thousands.
Theiss had his due-process hearing July 24, according to Mieras.

There are still at least 2 employees that are implicated but not yet named in this investigation. I am hopefull the school police will continue to follow up and expose all employees involved.
I happen to know Linda and Melinda very well and I am quite certain the comments regarding Linda filling a harassment suit are just not true even though she has years of documentation and legal grounds. Linda only wants justice and accountability from the district and the employees involved.
