As wake boarders descend on the Sparks Marina for the MasterCraft pro Wakeboard Tour, a few areas will be off limits for locals.

The city announced that the south dock of the marina will be closed Friday through Sunday. The dog park will also be closed during the following times:

Thursday, closed from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Friday, closed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Saturday, closed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sunday, closed from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Another group who uses the marina, the Sierra Nevada Community Sailing Group, also announced that they will be postponing their marina meeting to make room for the wakeboard competition.

This weekend’s regularly scheduled adaptive sailing group excursion has been rescheduled to the weekend of Aug. 23 according to Washoe County Parks and Open Space spokesman Bob Harmon.

The adaptive sailing group meeting will be combined with an open sailing day.

The MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard tour will bring about 200 professional competitors to the marina. Each will vie for cash prizes and the Pro Tour title. The marina will be the last of five stops for the tour and the decisive end to the competition.

In addition to the wakeboarders on the water, vendors and sponsors will set up booths on the marina’s shores.

The event will run from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday.

Tickets can be purchased at the gate on event dates for $10 (general admission) or $5 (ages 6-12). Those 5 years old and younger are free.

I am so proud of Sparks for it new accomplishments. The city is one of two towns I love in Nevada...The other is Hawthorne.

I was born in Teno nearly 74 years ago, and was raised in Sparks. Aboth a year ago I moved to Surprise, Arizona only because of the cold winters up there. I do miss Sparks and my pride will only continue to grow for my home town.
