From Thursday through Aug. 23, Nevada Humane Society is celebrating the Dog Days of Summer and asking for your help with finding great new home for the many homeless animals in the shelter.

Come watch the shelter dogs cool off with a pool party on Friday and Saturday and Aug. 21 and 22 between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Cookies and ice cold lemonade will also be available.

To make adoption more affordable, special adoption fees will be in effect: $10 for adult cats (4 months and older), $30 for adult dogs (4 months and older, excluding specially priced dogs) and kittens for $50 (single or in pairs).

All the animals are neutered, vaccinated and mircochipped before adoption, said Denise Stevens, operations director for NHS.

“International Homeless Animal Day is celebrated on Aug. 15, but here at the shelter, every day is homeless animal day,” added Bonney Brown, executive director of NHS. “With 180 dogs and over 300 cats that are in need of homes, you will be sure to find the perfect companion to fit into your lifestyle.”

The shelter, at 2825 Longley Lane in Reno, is open for adoptions every day from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and on Saturdays at 10 a.m. For more information, call 775-856-2000 or email info@nevadahumanesociety.org.
