The bomb threat sent the school into a code yellow lock down shortly after 9 a.m. At 11:30 a.m., students were dismissed for the day. School will resume as usual Tuesday, Washoe County School District officials said.
Dogs from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport were brought into the school to check for the existence of any further explosives. The school was found to be clean. Police conducted a further search after school was released.
Sparks Police learned of the existence of the alleged bombs after a tip from the VA hospital. One of the patients there told hospital representatives the whereabouts of the two packages, claiming that they were explosive. According to Steve Mulvenon, Washoe County School District spokesman, the locations were then confirmed by the bomb squad.
Sparks Police are questioning the man, who they said is homeless.
"The man is well-known to the Sparks PD and well-known to the VA hospital," Mulvenon said.
Sparks High School was dismissed for the day at 11:30 a.m. and all after-school activities have been canceled.
