A man held onto the outside railing of the Cal Neva parking garage Saturday night as a crowd gathered below. Officers from the Reno Police Department described the man as “despondent” while negotiators spent two hours trying to talk him out of taking his own life.

After two hours with three officers from Reno’s Critical Incident Negotiation team, the man offered himself into police custody. According to Lt. Mohammed Rafaqat, the man was taken to a local hospital. The Reno Police Department has not been notified of the man’s current whereabouts or condition, Rafaqat said.

Four other officers spent their time on the ground controlling crowds, Rafaqat added.

The incident happened just about the time that hundreds of people left the regularly scheduled Aces baseball game.
