"We did well, we didn't hit as well as we could have," Spanish Springs coach Todd Mosman said on his team's tournament run. "Defensively we played pretty well, we had a couple of mental lapses."
Fallon took a 3-1 lead over Spanish Springs in both teams' final game of the tournament. Triston Sceirine singled and scored on a Ryan Raymond double to pull within one, trailing 3-2.
Fallon got outs on the next two Spanish Springs batters, but Justin Soule delivered with an RBI single, tying the game at three apiece.
Soule came in to pitch for Spanish Springs in the third inning, relieving Nolan Mosman, who had a high pitch count. Nolan stuck out six batters in two innings, but gave up three hits with a combination of fielding troubles and free bases on wild pitches and passed balls.
In four innings of work, Soule struck out five and kept Fallon from scoring again.
"Justin Soule came in and threw four great innings for us," Mosman said.
Spanish Springs earned the game-winning run in the top of the fifth inning. Kyle Smith led off with a double and scored on sac fly to right field by Soule for the game winning run. Spanish Springs' defense behind Soule held out for Fallon's final two at-bats to stave off any scores from the Churchill County squad.
In the first inning, Fallon scored one to take an early lead. Will Bliss was walked by Mosman and scored on a single from Austin Rall.
Spanish Springs tied things up in the top of the second. Ian Walton walked and scored on a Tyler Smith single.
Fallon put up two in the bottom of the second to take the threatening 3-1 lead in the low-scoring game. Seth White singled and scored on a wild pitch, breaking the tie with a 2-1 edge. Jared Harmon reached on an error and scored on a Spanish Springs miscue taking the two-run lead into the third.
"We gave up too many runs in the first inning, second on passed balls," Mosman said. "We played some good defense, we turned a couple double plays."
Spanish Springs finished off the tournament 2-2 after receiving its berth from the state championships. Fallon, took second place in state. Since Spanish Springs was automatically given a berth to the tournament for hosting it, Fallon took the state championship berth.
Fallon lost to Spanish Springs in three of their last four meetings.
