In a release, officials have asked those in the Nichols and McCarran boulevard area to be vigilant about their surroundings.
Friday afternoon’s incident occurred at the Waterford Apartment complex on Nichols Boulevard. Police responded at 3:17 p.m. on a report of an attempted robbery.
A 64-year old Asian woman said she was followed back to her apartment by stocky man described as an 18-year old Pacific Islander.
The suspect then pulled a knife and placed it near the woman’s stomach and demanded that she give him her money. The woman refused and the suspect then told her to open her door to her apartment, which again she refused.
The victim said that she then engaged in a brief dialog with the suspect when a neighbor and independent witness observed the robbery.
Due to the presence of the neighbor, the suspect became uncomfortable and left the area on foot. The victim then immediately called the Sparks Police Department. When officers arrived on scene, the suspect had fled the area.
The Sparks Police Department is still following up on the investigation and officials are asking that any information from the community be forwarded to the Detective Division of the Sparks Police Department at 353-2225.
The woman and an independent witness described the suspect as a male Pacific Islander, approximately 18-years old, 5-feet 8-inches tall and a stocky build at about 200 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. The suspect was last seen walking away from the victim wearing grey sweat pants with unknown writing down one side and a dark colored hooded sweat shirt.
The victim stated that she first noticed the suspect walking around the area near the Dollar Tree store at McCarran Boulevard and Prater Way.
The Sparks Police Department said that they would like to make the community aware of a string of robberies in this area of town and would ask that the citizens be “hypervigilant” of there surroundings, especially if they observe individuals in heavy clothing during extremely warm weather.
