RENO — Residents in the Linden/Grove Street area will enjoy a brighter, safer play area the next time they visit Yori Park. A "lighting ceremony" at the park is scheduled for Thursday at 5 p.m. to celebrate the installation of new, state-of-the-art lighting fixtures.

The lights have long been dark due to vandalism. The park is located at 2800 Yori Ave.

The new lights are a result of on-going revitalization efforts in the Linden/Grove area by Ward 2 Council member Sharon Zadra. The $30,000 lighting project was paid for using Community Development Block Grants and Community Pride Grants approved by the Council and Ward 2 Central Neighborhood Advisory Board. Other revitalization efforts in the Linden/Grove area include a huge clean-up effort that occurred last fall involving residents, businesses, the Department of Justice's local Weed and Seed Office and the City of Reno. Over the past year, a new Neighborhood Watch group and monthly meetings for area apartment managers and city staff have taken place. Sidewalks are also being installed or repaired and new crosswalks have also been installed near Echo Loder Elementary School.
