According to state executive director and former Miss Nevada Teresa Benitez-Thompson, the crown went missing from the pageant board president’s hotel room at the Circus Circus early Thursday morning.
Officials from the Circus Circus confirmed the disappearance, adding that security is looking at surveillance tapes and key card entry records to see if they can track down the crown.
“I don’t care if someone just leaves it in a conspicuous place so that some good soul can find it and bring it back,” Benitez-Thompson said.
According to Benitez-Thompson, the crown is only worth about $300, but it has a greater sentimental meaning to the girl who has worked so hard to wear it.
“Please, if anyone knows anything about the stolen crown, please contact us,” Benitez-Thompson pleaded. “The crown has very little monetary value, but represents all the hard work that contestants and volunteers have committed to this dynamic program. We do not want this isolated incident to reflect upon Circus Circus. They have been more than wonderful to us.”
Anyone who has information about the whereabouts of the crown can e-mail the organization at missnevada@hotmail.com.
The crown was destined for the head of the next Miss Nevada, who will eventually go on to compete in the Miss America pageant.
The event is scheduled to take place Saturday at the Pioneer Theater in Reno.
