Campus officials say no filled tenure or tenure-track positions were eliminated.
Overall state appropriations decreased by 33 percent, impacting such UNR statewide programs as Oral History, the Center for Ethics and Health Policy, the Small Business Development Center and the Nevada Bureau of Mines.
The university is closing several centers: the Equine Center on Valley Road, the Center for Holocaust, Genocide and Peace Studies, and writing and math tutoring centers.
UNR's Career Development Department also has closed.
Provost Marc Johnson says a large number of part-time faculty will be replaced with full-time faculty who will teach bigger classes.
