During the months of February and March, member credit unions of the Northern Nevada Chapter of the California & Nevada Credit Union League collected backpacks and school supplies for the local Children in Transition (CIT) program.

Through the Children in Transition Program, Nevada school districts provide homeless children the opportunity to achieve the same high-quality academic standards by eliminating barriers to their education. With an advocate at every school in the district to identify more than 1,300 children yearly, they help children living in motels, homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters, Kids Cottage, doubled up or unaccompanied youth.

Recently, all supplies collected were presented to CIT. Through donations from credit union members and local businesses, more than 80 backpacks and hundreds of pens, pencils, notebooks and other supplies were collected. This drive would not have been so successful without the generosity of participating credit union members, Fernley Post #37 of the American Legion for the use of the donation barrels, RB Technologies for donating advertising posters, along with local businesses that wish to remain anonymous, organization officials said.
