Tribune/Dan McGee - The closest anyone got to Shawn Natenstedt (1) was Steve McGee (57ab), who tried the outside line in Friday's IMCA feature at the Reno-Fernley Raceway. After scoring this victory, Natenstedt moved to Rattlesnake in Fallon and won Saturday's feature.

For many years the sandy Fernley Motocross Track was the "House of Stillmock" as brothers Butch and Scott, co-owners of MACH 2 Motorsports in Fernley, were almost unbeatable. On this weekend, when the locals defended their turf against the invaders, Scott Stillmock reigned supreme.
"It wasn't bad as I haven't been hardly riding lately," Scott Stillmock said. "I was actually behind two guys and they kind of tangled up and that let me sneak right by them. Then I put it in a good pace to pull away, kind of cruised the last two laps and won four out of four."
In most of his motos, Stillmock would get out and let everyone eat his dust as he roared away from them.
At the Nationals the riders race twice on Saturday then twice more on Sunday so it's a long grind. Later in the day Stillmock's daughter Hope won both of the Women support motos.
The first local chapter member to actually score an overall victory for the weekend was Sparks rider Kyle Wyant, who held two other riders at bay while winning his final moto.
"The race was fun, out here in the sand it's always fun. You just get the hold shot, get out in front and give it all you have," he said.
Another Sparks rider, Russ Wyatt went into his final moto with a tie but he raced his way to third, which was enough to clinch the weekend's overall victory for him. But it wasn't easy as he rode with a handicap.
"I had to ride that last moto with a flat front tire and it kind of wore me out," he said. "I'm on a 125 and they are all on big bore bikes so I usually have to go through the pack to get up to the front but I only needed a third to take the overall. I used the math lessons I learned in school to ride this moto."
One of the closest races came in the final 30+ Expert moto when winner Robert Callahan grabbed the lead on the final lap dropping Steven Slaney to second.
All in all the locals had a pretty good day winning five of the 18 divisions that raced this weekend. While several riders crashed only one was transported after a Saturday incident and his condition is unknown.
Now everyone gets a chance to rest up before the next round of the Nationals in California.
•Friday night's action at the Reno-Fernley Raceway began three days of oval track racing in the area.
Veteran Carl Barlow won the Hobby Stock event going away once he got into the lead. Now he's the only driver to finish in the top four for every race at RFR and the only repeat winner in his division.
Pro Stock was all Travis Petersen; the Spanish Springs resident had his car on rails as he just left the field despite the best efforts of Josh Ogg, who tried to make a race of it.
"We were on a mission tonight so we came back to redeem ourselves and I think we did a good job of that," he said. "The track was a little slick so we just took it nice and easy, drove smart and came home ahead.
The IMCA main was slowed by several cautions but in the end Shawn Natenstedt began his weekend on a high note with a victory. It wasn't easy as Steve McGee tried his best but only could get beside Natenstedt a couple of times.
"No I didn't think it was going to end with so many cautions," he said. "The start was pretty good and I weaved my way through traffic that first lap, dialed in the car, sat back, relaxed and got the job done. I also need to thanks Silverado Casino, Carson Plains and Jake's Gas."
On Saturday night the mood was somber as Rattlesnake Raceway honored veterans as well as the executive officer of Naval Air Station Fallon, Luther Hook, who died Friday night in a plane crash that also took the lives of this three daughters.
After winning the Rat Mod feature, winner Glenn Lee said, "I want to dedicate the win to Hook's family."
Lee knew Hook as they attended the same church and both families were close to the deceased officer.
Mike White won the Sprint Car main while rookie Hazen Halbert was delighted when she won the Bomber main in only her second race ever.
"I was like, 'I couldn't believe it,' the track was perfect and I just pulled it out," Halbert said.
The Hobby Stock main had several crashes, including one that destroyed the car of local Richard Italiano - fortunately he escaped without injury. The winner was James Vanroekel from California.
Things ended with a caution filled IMCA Modified main but when the dust settled Natenstedt claimed his second victory in as many days, which makes him the points leader at three different tracks as well as in the state.
"My car wasn't very good at the beginning," he said. "I just picked my way through traffic and had a couple good runs on the bottom and that's where I ended up in the front."
