On Saturday, letter carriers collected the filled bags as they delivered mail along their regular postal routes. Area grocery stores including Raley’s, Scolari’s, Smith’s, Save Mart, Safeway, Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods Market also accepted contributions. Donations will be delivered to the Food Bank of Northern Nevada and distributed to more than 90,000 hungry children, seniors and working families in our region

The Food Bank of Northern Nevada is a nonprofit organization that distributes more than 5 million pounds of food annually to more than 110 agencies in northern Nevada and the Tahoe/Sierra region. Agencies include emergency food assistance pantries, shelters, low-income day care centers, rehabilitation programs and senior nutrition centers. Direct services include educational and supplemental food programs directed toward helping the populations that make up 75 percent of Food Bank clients: low-income seniors and children. Last year, the Food Bank provided food for more than 90,000 clients.
