The Sparks boys basketball team struggled to put the ball in the basket after halftime and the result was a 53-43 losers' bracket loss to Marshall on Day 3 of the Railroaders' annual Rail City Classic, which they co-hosts with Wooster High School.

Sparks took a 25-23 lead into the locker room at halftime, but managed just 18 points after the break and watched its slim lead not only disappear but saw Marshall High, of San Francisco, gradually pull away.

Sparks found itself down 38-33 after getting outscored 15-8 in the third period. Marshall also outscored Sparks in the final quarter, 15-10, to account for its 10-point tournament victory at Sparks High's Brickhouse.

A porous shooting night doomed Sparks. The Railroaders connected on just 16-of-63 shots (25 percent) from the field, including only 6-of-28 (21 percent) from beyond the arc.

The SHS cagers were led by senior shooting guard Isaiah Campbell, who finished with 19 points, but he was only 6-of-21 shooting from the floor. No other Railroader player had more than seven points in defeat.

Sparks also gave away 19 turnovers.

The Railroaders (0-6) play on their SHS home floor Saturday at 11 a.m. in the 12-team tournament's 11th-place game.
