Sparks’ long season did not get any shorter Friday as the Railroaders were smacked 54-0 at Lowry to fall to 0-6 on the season.

The Railroaders recovered an onside kick to open the game but the Buckaroos held on a fourth-and-four and took a 7-0 lead a few plays later on a long run. The Railroaders fumbled the ensuing kickoff and allowed Lowry to punch its way into the end zone to increase the distance to 14-0, which was plenty.

“There were times we moved the ball, we just weren’t consistent enough,” Sparks coach Rob Kittrell said. “When we crossed the 50, we shot ourselves in the foot.”

With a 14-0 lead, Lowry threw 19 points on the board in the second quarter to put the game away.

After playing Fallon last week, and Lowry Friday, Sparks has played the two teams who appear to be the class of the Div. I-A the last two weeks.

“The tough part is who we’re playing the last couple weeks,” Kittrell said. “They’re the two best teams and you have to give them credit, but we have to be more consistent.”

The Railroaders will look for their first win this season Friday at South Tahoe.

“We have to keep getting better,” Kittrell said. “That’s all you can do.”
