The scoreboard showed Sparks scored two touchdowns but missed the uprights on both point after tries. But it wasn’t a gridiron battle for Sparks. The SHS boys soccer team thrashed Fernley 12-0 Tuesday night in a Div. I-A North league affair.

The Railroaders shot on goal 40 times compared to Fernley’s three.

“We continue to work hard,” coach Frank Avilla said. “Things are just falling our way.”

The final scoring margin will typically show that with the amount of talent on the Sparks squad.

Ruben Pacheco landed his third hat trick (6’, 13’, 74’) in four games and has scored 11 goals in the team’s four contests this season.

Freshman Francisco Macias finished one goal short of his own hat trick scoring in the 13th and 65th minutes. Cristian Moran also finished a goal short of a hat trick with goals in the 23rd and 32nd minutes.

Sparks is expected to be challenged for the first time on the season Friday when the team hops on the bus to play Truckee.

Said Avilla: “It’s time for our coming out.”

Sparks now sits 4-0 on the young season and 3-0 in conference clashes.
