Scheels to host 5K HOP-A-LONG race

Grab your family and bring your friends on Sunday to Scheels for the the 5K HOP-A-LONG, beginning at 9 a.m. from the Scheels parking lot. Participants can pre-register online at www.scheels.com or pick up a registration form inside the store. Pre-registration costs $20, and is available through 9 p.m. on Friday. Participants who pre-register are encouraged to visit the Adidas Packet Pick-Up booth on Saturday between 3 and 8 p.m. located inside Scheels. Packet pick-up will also be available on Sunday between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. Registration costs increase to $25 on Saturday and will only be available in-store. Race day registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. and close at 8:30 a.m.

Water, Powerade and fruit will be available to all participants at the finish line. The awards ceremony will feature first, second and third places for overall male and female addition to male and female age divisions. The 5K HOP-A-LONG will also feature a 5K School Challenge, which will give an award for Most Team Members and Best School Spirit. All runners will receive an official race T-shirt. Door prizes from Adidas will also be given away following the race; participants must be present to win.

The charity to benefit will be Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada, the local youth mentoring organization that changes the way children grow up in Northern Nevada. In 2008, 731 local youth were provided a Big Brother or Big Sister. The “Bigs” provide a friendship that helps youth aspire to fulfill their potential.
