Tribune/John Byrne -- Dozens of kids enter the water for the Scheels Kids' Triathlon Saturday morning at Sparks Marina.
Even though Saturday morning proved to be a hot one, Sparks’ kids ran, biked and swam their way around the Sparks Marina in the Scheel’s Youth Triathlon. Kids, ages 8 through 12, ran or walked a 0.2. “mile,” biked 1.8 miles and swan 25 meters during the non-competitive event around the Sparks Marina.
Scheel’s and the Sparks Park and Recreation Department hosted the annual event in hopes of introducing a love of triathlon to local youths and to get them off the couch.
“It’s was a great turnout,” said Tanja Ramciotti, spokeswoman for the Sparks Parks and Recreation. “We had 150 participants.”
This year also reported no injuries at this event.
