The camp is set to run July 23-25 in the Spanish Springs High School large gym. The camp will run daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is open to girls and boys going into the first through eighth grades. The camp registration fee is $125.
"We want to get the kids in the community a little more exposure to the program," Cardenas said. "We especially want to get the younger kids a little bit more involved. I don't know what numbers will be yet, but we're always working to get more.
"I'm excited to try and meet more kids in the community. That's what this is all about, to hopefully get them excited about the program for years down the road."
Campers will receive Cougars camp T-shirt and Cougars basketball.
A typical day of camp activities will include warmups, passing-passing-dribbling-ball handling drills, shooting work, defense and rebounding skills, competitions and team play. Camp will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each of the three days.
"With the younger ones, the ones just beginning, we'll try to keep it basic," Cardenas said. "We'll work a lot on fundamentals. With the others, who are a little more advanced, we'll do some drills to challenge them a little bit more. The mornings will be a lot of drills. The afternoons will be more contests and games."
