Last Saturday (6/8) at 9:03 p.m., Sparks Police officers responded to reports of an automobile versus pedestrian accident in the 200 block of E. Greenbrae, near Longford Park.

When officers arrived, they found a 9-year old girl lying in the roadway with injures. Sparks Fire Department and REMSA personnel responded to the scene and rendered aid to the victim. She was transported to Renown Medical Center for further treatment of those injuries. At this time, they are not believed to be life-threatening.

The investigation thus far shows that a vehicle being driven by a Sparks resident was westbound on East Greenbrae near Longford Park. It is believed that the girl, who was riding a Razor-type scooter, emerged from between two parked cars and entered the roadway. She was then struck by the vehicle. Neither alcohol nor excessive speed on the part of the vehicle are believed to be factors in the accident, which remains under investigation. No charges have been filed in connection with this case.

Anyone with additional information on this accident is asked to contact the Sparks Police Department traffic section at 353-2503.

The Sparks Police Department reminds parents that safety equipment items, such as helmets, elbow pads and knee pads are a good idea. They may help reduce or eliminate injury in many situations.
