There won’t be much Blue and Gold or Purple and White or Maroon and Gold at this week’s state swim meet, but one swimmer will head to Carson City as a Northern champion.

Spanish Springs senior Jared Means won the boys 100-yard breaststroke last week at regionals, touching the wall in 1:05.95. His time was slower than his seed time coming in and he is about six seconds behind the fastest time put up by Green Valley’s Michael Velazquez.

Audrey Blondfield will represent Spanish Springs at state in the girls 50-yard freestyle after taking third at regionals with a time of 25.76 seconds. Her seed time is the slowest among the eight-swimmer field.

The other Division I Rail City school will have a representative at state. Reed diver Amy Watanabe took third by scoring 326.25 points at the regional meet.

In Division I-A, Sparks’ Dominic Roman swam a 25.23 in the boys 50-yard freestyle in order to earn the final berth to the state meet.
