Drivers cautioned about road closures for trooper's funeral procession

Starting as early as 8 a.m. Wedesday, some Reno roads will close for a large funeral procession for Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Kara Kelly-Borgognone.

Kelly-Borgognone was killed last week on her way to an emergency call, when her vehicle was struck by a Chevrolet SUV on Pyramid Highway.

No Sparks streets will be closed for the procession of law enforcement officers leading to the memorial service. More than 3,000 people are expected to attend the service at 11 a.m. at Lawlor Events Center in Reno.

At 8 a.m., West Street between Vine Street and Keystone Avenue in Reno will close to allow for the procession vehicles to line up.

The northbound lanes of North Virginia Street surrounding the University of Nevada, Reno will close at 10 a.m., as the procession is expected to arrive at Lawlor between 10:30 and 10:45 a.m.

UNR students and faculty can use Evans Avenue to reach the campus, or Sierra Street to reach the residence halls.

Other streets that face temporary closures between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. include:

Keystone Avenue to West Fourth Street

West Fourth Street to South McCarran Boulevard

South McCarran Boulevard to Kietzke Lane

Kietzke Lane to Neil Road

Neil Road to U.S. 395

U.S.. 395 to Mill Street off-ramp

Mill Street to Ryland Avenue

Ryland Avenue to Liberty Street

Liberty Street to Virginia Street

Virginia Street to Lawlor Events Center
