Detectives arrest residential robbery suspects

On Aug. 11, deputies were called to a home on Fellowship Way on a report of a robbery that had just taken place. The victim, who indicated this crime was connected to a woman he had met through Craig’s List “Erotic Section,” had just been accosted by two men who forced their way into his home, robbed his home and left the scene.

Over the next few days, investigators connected the suspects to the crime partially by rental car information provided by the victim, and by video tape obtained from a local convenience store.

Ryan Robert Smith, 28, a resident of Carson City, was arrested and booked into the Washoe County Detention Facility on Aug. 14, for burglary with intent to commit a felony, robbery, two counts of possession of stolen property and failure to appear. He is being held on $15,000 bail.

Washoe County Detectives working together with detectives from the Repeat Offender Program, and Street Enforcement Teams obtained information that the other suspect, Scott Alexander Cox, 38, a resident of Sparks, intended to leave the state and had an airline ticket in his possession. With assistance from the Reno Tahoe Airport Police and employees from Transportation Safety Administration, Cox was arrested at the Reno-Tahoe Airport while preparing to board an aircraft.

Cox was transported to the Washoe County Detention facility and booked for robbery, burglary with the intent to commit a felony and a parole violation. He is being held on $50,000 cash-only bail.

Detectives have information to link these two suspects to numerous other residential burglaries throughout the area. They are asking for anyone with information to call Washoe County Detectives at 328-3320 or Secret Witness at 322-4900.

The Regional Street Enforcement team is comprised of detectives from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Reno Police Department, Sparks Police Department and the University of Nevada, Reno Police Department.

The Regional Repeat Offender Program is comprised of detectives from Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Reno Police Department and Sparks Police Department.
