RENO — Your chance to learn about Reno city government and participate in the city in which you live is fast approaching. The deadline for applicants to register for the Reno Citizens Institute is March 27.

The Reno Citizens Institute or RCI is a free, 10-week seminar that meets at various city facilities. The first session is set to begin April 9, at 5:30 p.m. with 10 weekly sessions each Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. A light meal is provided before each class.

The Reno Citizens Institute allows citizens to meet and chat with elected officials, department heads and city staff to learn first hand about Reno city government. RCI offers a chance to gain valuable insight into city operations that you can use to create change in your neighborhood and community. It also offers a learning opportunity for those who want to serve on one of the city's many advisory boards or are interested in running for office.

RCI is held twice a year and is limited to 30 participants. Participants must be at least 18 years old and work or reside in the Truckee Meadows. A minimal background check of applicants is required primarily to make sure participants do not have outstanding warrants.

Applications for the spring session and more information about the program are available on the city’s Web site www.cityofreno.com or by calling Reno Direct at 334-INFO (4636). The class schedule is as follows:
