A low-scoring affair turned into a 1-0 road loss to Damonte Ranch for the Reed girls soccer team in a crossover league contest Friday evening.

Damonte scored its lone goal in the 24th minute. The Mustangs got a corner kick that crossed in front of the Raiders' goal and was headed into the net for the score.

"It was a great header. I take nothing away from her. She hit it perfect," Reed coach Jason Saville said.

Reed lost more than the match Friday. It's all-league midfielder Aubrie Ciesynski was lost for the remainder of the season after breaking her collarbone.

"It was a tough night all around," Saville said. "Just when you think you're getting a player back, then we lose a player. We're going to have to grind it out. The team is going to have to come together and pick each other up. If our work ethic and dedication are there still, then I like our chances."

The Raiders coach felt like his squad had plenty of chances to win or at least steal a tie at Damonte Friday. It just couldn't get the key goal or goals it needed.

"We certainly had a lot of shots, especially in the second half," Saville said. "In the first 10 or 15 minutes of the second half we had some good looks and in the last 10 or 15 minutes we got some good looks. We just cant get that final touch on the ball. We certainly created chances. We can't finish the ball off in the 18-yard box. We're going to have to score more. We're definitely playing pretty good defense over the last couple games, but we must put more balls in the back of the net if we want to make a (playoff) run."

Next up for Reed, it will play at McQueen at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
