RENO — The Western Physicians’ Alliance (WPA) is teaming with AT&T and the American Medical Association (AMA) to make advanced electronic healthcare tools and resources available to its network of more than 325 independently practicing physician members throughout northern Nevada.
WPA physicians can access the AMAGINE physician community portal to help them easily integrate health IT into the management of their practices through a single source with affordable choices. The platform also enables WPA physicians to connect and collaborate with hospitals, payers and patients to help enhance patient care.
Earlier this year, AT&T and the AMA announced an alliance to integrate AMA’s AMAGINE physician community portal with AT&T Healthcare Community Online powered by Covisint, creating an advanced collaborative care and healthcare information exchange (HIE) platform. The relationship will expand the functions and capabilities of the AMAGINE physician community portal.
Physicians affiliated with WPA can now access important applications such as clinical decision support, e-prescribing, care management and electronic health records. The solution also helps improve workflow efficiency and streamline processes associated with physician orders and referrals, lab orders and results, medications and discharge planning.
For example, an electronic prescribing tool can send prescriptions to pharmacies instantly, helping physicians improve patient care, simplify office workflow and receive instant checks on drug interactions, dosage levels and adverse reactions. Another web-based intelligence tool canplay an important role in supporting collaborative decision-making by caregivers as well as monitoring the health of patients across the community.
“The need for collaboration and cooperation among physicians has never been greater. Our goal has been to improve communication among our members that encourages the efficiency of healthcare delivery to our patients,” said Steven L. Phillips, M.D., Informatics Medical Director, WPA.
“Physicians want to improve the quality of patient care, and this seamless solution connects them with other caregivers to see a holistic view of the patient,” said Geeta Nayyar, M.D., Chief Medical Information Officer, AT&T For Health, AT&T Business and Home Solutions.
