Tristan Dahir scattered eights hits to pick up a complete-game victory on the mound, lifting Spanish Springs to a 6-1 decision over Murray (Northern Utah) in Elk Grove, Calif.
Dahir struck out seven and walked one. He also was 2-for-2 at the plate along with Ryan Brennan. Ryan Costello also added a pair of hits.
Nevada grabbed an early lead with a four-run second inning and was never threatened. Northern Utah cut the deficit down to three with its only run in the fourth frame. But Nevada tacked on two more scores in the fifth for the final 6-1 score.
Jesse Coats drove in two runs in the win. Conner Pulp, Costello, Tristan Hussey and Brennan Klenow each knocked in a run.
Nevada likely faces another must-win situation today when it faces Laguna Purple (Northern California #1), which is 3-0 in pool play. Only the top two teams from each pool advance to the single-elimination bracket, and Nevada sits at 2-1. If Spanish Springs loses, it will need help from other teams losing as well as beneficial tiebreakers.
First pitch today is at 11:30 a.m.
