The bands will take the main stage during the event, which runs from Aug. 29 through Sept. 3. No tickets are required, and people can enjoy the bands free of charge.
Free, main stage entertainment includes:
Jelly Bread – 7 p.m. on Aug. 29. A mix of funk, soul and roots rock, this band from the Reno/Tahoe area will wow audiences on the first night of the Rib Cook-Off.
The Wood Brothers – 7 p.m. on Aug. 30. Two brothers comprise this blues and folk band.
Spin Doctors – 7 p.m. on Aug. 31. This Grammy-nominated group won the American Music Award for Best New Song Act in 1994.
Gloriana – 7 p.m. on Sept. 1. Country favorite Gloriana propelled into the spotlight with their 2009 hit “Wild at Heart.”
Molly Hatchet – 7 p.m. on Sept. 2. This Southern rock band formed in Jacksonville, Fla., in 1975.
Doug Kershaw – 3 p.m. on Sept. 3. Louisiana-native Doug Kershaw’s Cajun folk music will entertain rib-eaters on the last day of the cook-off.
The 2012 Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-off features 24 of the nation’s top rib-cookers, each vying for the highly coveted first place trophy, cash prizes and the People’s Choice Award. This year, The Nugget anticipates at least 500,000 hungry BBQ-lovers will consume the more than 100 tons of ribs over the extended Labor Day weekend.
