WASHINGTON — Sen. Harry Reid announced Monday that the Senate has passed and President Obama has signed into law legislation that extends Payment in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) for one year and restores Secure Rural Schools (SRS) funding through fiscal year 2012. PILT was set to expire at the end of 2012 and SRS expired last year.
Nevada’s SRS county payments rose from $407,000 in fiscal year 2007 to $4.5 million in fiscal year 2011, and its PILT payments went from $13.8 million to nearly $23 million.
