The victory keeps Sparks in contention for a regular season league title. The Railroaders now sit 7-4 in conference clashes. Sparks finishes its regular season Friday night at home against league rival Dayton.
With just the one game remaining, the Railroaders could finish anywhere from first to third in the final 3A North standings. The top two teams receive first-round byes in the league tournament next week.
Sparks held a slim 10-9 edge after the first period and outscored its hosts 22-17 in the second period to take a 32-26 advantage into the locker room at halftime. The two teams traded buckets after halftime, but Yerington was never able to throw a serious scare into its guests.
Angel Guillen poured in 24 points to lead the Railroaders to Wednesday's triumph. Martin Jordan added 15 points for Sparks on the strength of five 3-pointers.
"We ran off their misses well. We played as well as we've played with the lead and we eliminated their second shots pretty well," Sparks coach Dick Lee said. "Our execution was much better. We had fewer turnovers.
"I'm pleased with the win because of how well Yerington has played lately. They are always tough. I have a lot of respect for their program, their coach and how hard their kids play … Our kids are really fired up. They are excited about Friday and we'd like to make it a special night."
