Nevada Highway Patrol captain promotions

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) announced June 12 the promotion of three new captains.

Captain Susan Aller-Schilling has worked for the state of Nevada since August 1985. In February 1998, Aller-Schilling started her career with the Department of Public Safety in Parole and Probation. In December 2005, Aller-Schilling transferred to the NHP as lieutenant of administrative services, radio shop, garage shop and overseeing the entire fleet, front office, supplies and L3 in-car video systems.

Her present role as captain will be to oversee rural patrol operations, administration and dispatch for NHP Northern Command West. Aller-Schilling will be based out of the Reno office.

Captain John O’Rourke started his career with the NHP in July 1995. O’Rourke was promoted through the ranks with his last assignment as lieutenant at NHP Headquarters where he was the personnel officer for the chief’s office in Carson City.

His present role as captain will be to oversee rural, commercial, special operations and risk management in the Las Vegas Southern Command.

Captain Thomas Merschel started his career with NHP in April 1993. Merschel was promoted through the NHP ranks with his last assignment as lieutenant of commercial operations for Northern Command East.

His present role as captain will be to oversee all of Northern Command East.
