The ban applies to wood and charcoal fires even within established grills and fire rings at the popular park on the Mount Rose Highway half way between Reno and Lake Tahoe.
Only portable stoves using gas or pressurized liquid fuel are allowed. Smoking is permitted only within a closed vehicle or at a developed picnic area.
The park borders the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, where the U.S. Forest Service imposed similar fire restrictions a week ago in the ranger districts along the Nevada-California line.
Campfires are allowed at least for now at Davis Creek Campground further south in Washoe Valley.
