RENO — Washoe County invites the public to a grand opening of the Arrowcreek Fire Station as a way to celebrate its decision to stand up its own fire district by merging Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and Sierra Fire, expected to be up and running July 1.
The grand opening will take place at the station from 3-5 p.m. today at 13500 Thomas Creek Road, at the northeast corner of Thomas Creek Road and Arrowcreek Parkway in Reno.
The event will be sponsored by the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District and Washoe County. Refreshments will be provided.
In other news, the county district has made progress recently with surrounding fire districts. Truckee Meadows has established automatic aid and mutual aid agreements with area fire departments to help ensure that a seamless transition of fire services is able to occur following its July 1 start date.
A cooperative agreement between the City of Sparks Fire Department and Truckee Meadows was approved, a cooperative Fire agreement and annual operating plan between the USDA Humboldt, Toiyabe National Forest Carson Ranger District was achieved, a cooperative agreement with Storey County Fire and the Truckee Meadows district was approved, a cooperative agreement with Carson City on behalf of the Carson City Fire Department was approved and a cooperative agreement wit North Lyon County Fire Protection District and Truckee Meadows was approved.
“The (Fire) Board also approved an amendment with the City of Reno amending the time by which the agreement terminates from June 30, 2012 at midnight to July 1, 2012 at 8 a.m., which is a mutual agreed-upon time among the fire chiefs,” said Truckee Meadows Fire Chief Charles Moore. “By moving the time frame, it will allow for a reasonable transition for both districts during the daylight hours.”
