LAS VEGAS (AP) — The former physician-owner of clinics at the center of a Las Vegas-area hepatitis C outbreak in 2007 asserted his Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination more than a dozen times during a sworn examination in his bankruptcy case.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports the examination was cut short Tuesday when it became clear that Dipak Desai’s lawyers weren’t going to let him testify under oath.
Trustee William Leonard Jr. says he’ll seek a court order to compel Desai to testify.
Desai’s bankruptcy attorney, John Hansen, argued previously that Desai was physically unable due to the effects of strokes to provide meaningful testimony about his finances.
Desert Shadow Endoscopy Center, Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada and Gastroenterology Center of Nevada filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy liquidation in July 2009.
