SPARKS — A sex offender who failed to register his proper address with authorities was arrested June 4.

Mark D. Bates, 60, was taken into custody in the 900 block of Kirman Avenue by detectives with the Regional Sex Offender Notification Unit (RSONU), with the assistance of the United States Marshal Service (USMS) and the Veteran’s Affairs Police Department. Bates, a registered sex offender, was not living at the address he provided law enforcement in March. Bates was taken into custody without incident and charged with failure to change his address, a felony. This is Bates’ eighth arrest for this violation, with his most recent in November 2011.

Nevada law requires sex offenders to notify law enforcement of any address changes within 48 hours of relocating.

Anyone who has information about Bates or any other offender is encouraged to contact the RSONU at 353-2244 or Secret Witness at 322-4900 or www.secretwitness.com.
