Meanwhile, the city of Reno has announced that the Idlewild and Traner pools will open for the 2012 season.
All swim clubs, teams and groups are being asked to participate in the Adopt-A-Pool program from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Idlewild Pool at 1805 Idlewild Drive in Reno.
Sierra Nevada Community Aquatics will give 10 free adult tickets to this year’s Aquafest on Aug. 25 to the swim club, team or group that brings the greatest percentage of their members to Saturday’s main Adopt -A-Pool event. People who volunteer during the weekdays will be given extra credits for Saturday.
There are several rules for the challenge:
1. All volunteers will sign in on Saturday morning at the main desk at the Idlewild pool.
2. Volunteers can only participate for one group. If you are a Reno area triathlete but swim with Sierra Nevada Masters, you will have to choose a group.
3. Each group must be there from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or when the work is all done (last year it was done early).
New for this year, the Adopt-A-Pool sponsors have come together to provide event T-shirts to the first 160 participants. Water, sports drinks and snacks will be provided by NV Energy.
Volunteers are also needed during the week. Below is a schedule of Adopt-A-Pool duties on the weekdays at Idlewild pool:
Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. – Pressure washing and clean out of pools as they drain, painting.

From Tuesday through Thursday at the Traner pool, the city will need volunteers to help with cleaning, painting, repairing expansion joints, assistance with building preparation and pump start-up. The Traner plan has the same basic functions as the Idlewild Pool.
Volunteers can bring rakes and gardening equipment for planting. Wear covered shoes that can get wet and clothes appropriate for painting.
