SWAT team responds to suicidal man

RENO — A SWAT team was called out Friday afternoon to rescue a suicidal man who was threatening to cut his own throat.

At 2:15 p.m., officers of the Reno Police Department were dispatched to 4180 Rewana Way on a report of a suicidal man armed with a knife. Officers met with the man’s wife outside the house.  She told authorities her husband was alone in the residence and had access to multiple firearms.  Police negotiators called the man and he made suicidal statements as well as threatening statements with the firearms.  He Also sent out photographs via text message depicting a serious and potentially life-threatening laceration to his neck.

Despite exhaustive efforts by police negotiators, the man refused to exit the residence. He had become increasingly lethargic during negotiations and eventually became unresponsive to negotiators.  The Reno Police SWAT team ultimately entered the residence and found the man inside. He had suffered significant blood loss was extremely lethargic and incoherent and in possession of a firearm. 

The man was taken to Renown Regional Medical Center and treated for his injuries.
