RENO — Great Basin Brewing Co. brought home the silver medal in the Sweet Stout category for its Outlaw Oatmeal Stout at the World Beer Cup in an awards ceremony that took place in San Diego, Calif. on May 5.
This year, a record 799 breweries from 54 countries vied for the awards, with 3,921 beers entered in 95 beer style categories. Great Basin’s silver medal award is one of only 284 awarded by the Brewers Association that evaluates beers from around the world and recognizes the most outstanding brewers and their beers.
World Beer Cup winners were selected by an international panel of 211 beer judges from 27 countries. The 2012 competition — referred to as the “Olympics of Beer Competition” — drew the largest, most international field of entrants in its .
Great Basin Brewing Co.’s Outlaw Oatmeal Stout has won several industry awards for excellence throughout the years, including a silver medal from the World Beer Cup in 2008, and a silver medal from the Great American Beer Festival in 2011.
