RENO — For more than 20 years, local gardeners have looked forward to the annual plant sale at the Wilbur D. May Arboretum sponsored by the May Arboretum Society. This year’s sale is scheduled for 8 a.m. to noon on June 2 at the Arboretum in Rancho San Rafael Regional Park.
Plant shoppers are advised to arrive early for best selection. The plants typically sell out well before noon.
The sale features a large variety of native and ornamental plants, vegetables and trees that are adapted to the climatic challenges of the Truckee Meadows region. The prices are very affordable, and the proceeds are used to help fund projects in the arboretum.
The Wilbur D. May Arboretum and Botanical Gardens opened in May 1986 as an outdoor, living museum and educational resource. The gardens illustrate how plant life adapts and survives in the rugged climate between the Sierra Nevada and Great Basin.
The arboretum is located inside Rancho San Rafael Regional Park at 1595 N. Sierra St. in Reno. Admission to the sale is free.
