RENO, Nev. (AP) — A judge has formally sentenced a Reno man to three life terms in prison without the possibility of parole for the killing of three people at a Halloween party in 2007.

Judge Patrick Flanagan sentenced 20-year-old Samisoni Taukitoku Friday in Washoe County District Court.

He was found guilty in November in the shooting deaths of Charles "Coogan" Kelly, Nate Viljoen and Derek Jensen. Kelly was 21. Viljoen and Jensen were both 23.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Dan Greco says he's pleased with the judge's order because it guarantees the killer will die in prison.

Taukitoku’s lawyer, Laura Lui, has said that they plan to appeal the conviction. They argued that he was jumped by several men when he went outside the house and fired his gun to scare people away.
