At 6 p.m. today is a three-minute film competition and screening. Young filmmakers put their skills to this test in this local competition for short independent films. The fourth annual 3-Minute Film Competition and Screening is co-sponsored by the museum, the Holland Project and KNBP Public Broadcasting. Admission costs $5.
From noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, come to NMA’s Mother’s Day Trunk Show. Find the perfect gift this Mother’s Day from the work of ceramics artist Barbara Glynn Prodaniuk and jewelry artist, Gail Rappa – both Wild Women artists. Admission to the Trunk Show is free.
This week is the free Second Saturdays event from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. From 1 to 3 p.m. Friday is Art Afternoon: Workshop & Social for Seniors. Expand your interests with a docent-guided tour and studio art class. Light refreshments. No art background necessary. Cost for two sessions is $10 for museum members or $12 for non-members.
At 6 p.m. May 17, Black Rock Arts Foundation and Black Rock Design present a talk by artist, designer, urban planner and wanderer Candy Chang called “Before I Die.” Recognized as a leader in developing new strategies for the design of cities, Chang will also discuss her installation of “Before I Die” in Reno. Networking and social hour with beer provided by Silver Peak Brewery at 5 p.m. Talk follows at 6 p.m. Cost is $8 for museum members and $10 for non-members.
At noon on May 18, come to “Art Bite - Meet the Collectors: The Bloms on Southwest Pottery.” Brenda and John Blom discuss the range of pottery they have collected from every era and pueblo in the Southwest. Admission is free for museum members and $10 for non-members.
From 3 to 4 p.m. on May 19, NMA will host “Performing Tiffany: James Winn and Katharine DeBoer.” Enjoy musical selections performed by the acclaimed pianist James Winn and renowned vocalist Katharine DeBoer. Admission costs $10 for museum members, or $15 for non-members.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 20 is KUNR Sunday Jazz Brunch with the Chuck DiLaura Trio. Catch a live jazz performance hosted by KUNR Radio and dine from the à la carte brunch menu from Café Musée. À la carte menu items range from $5 to $15.
